crime - Text - In case some of you don't know, an AirBnB is like a hotel, but it's someone's actual property. You can rent out rooms, entire apartments, condos, townhomes, and entire houses for one day or many days

crime - Text - A bit of backstory: My dad is a truck driver and is hoping to buy a new truck. He found some good deals on semi trucks in South Dakota, so we packed our clothes and made the 10 hour drive to the Sioux City/Sioux Falls area. My dad has never rented out an AirBnB before, and since we were gonna be here for 3 nights, I proposed renting out an AirBnB for the trip. He was opposed to the idea, he's a very traditional man that only does hotels. He doesn't trust AirBnB because he's afraid

crime - Text - always had fantastic experiences. Haven't ever had anything negative to say about them. I wanted to share this experience with my dad for the first time, and finally, on our last night here (currently set to go home in a few hours as I type this), I convinced him to rent an AirBnB after seeing our hotel rate skyrocketed from $70 to $110. He looked into other cheaper hotels, but I told him why not pay roughly the same price and get more in your stay? So, I go on AirBnB's website an

crime - Text - So once we were around 3 minutes away, the GPS told us to turn into this neighborhood, and it looked a bit rough. Certainly not the nice part of town we were just seeing before we turned into the neighborhood. My dad said "you booked us in the ghetto", and I told him there was still another 2 minutes in our drive, that maybe the quality would improve. It did get noticeably better, it was just small things like the roads were cracked and beat up, grass needed to be cut in many hous

crime - Text - And by undercover, I mean, they were wearing regular civilian clothing. One was wearing a red Chevrolet shirt and regular khaki pants, but had a police vest on, a walkie talkie, and was carrying a rifle, mask hiding his mouth, exposing his eyes. Another officer was next to him in similar clothing. Green pants, black shirt, black mask, sunglasses, rifle. My dad and l immediately felt dread for the location we had picked. To be fair, the pictures didn't look bad at all of the AirBnB

crime - Text - We arrived to the AirBnB, and immediately, we knew there was no way we were getting out. There was around 10 undercover police/ Narcotics Crime Unit officers right next to our AirBnB, just feet away. There was a man being detained, sitting on the steps to a house. We see another vehicle pull up, looking like just any ordinary brownish-grey truck. When the truck came to a stop, 4 more Narcotics officers came out. Very shortly after, another red car pulls up, once again, looking nor

We knew some serious shit was going on in that house. This was further justified when the majority of the officers put on a breathing mask, ones you put on to prevent from inhaling toxic or chemical fumes, and entered the house. We immediately notified our AirBnB host of what we were witnessing. She was in disbelief, saying she was there just an hour ago

And so, as we began taking photos, the officers came out, places the guy in the back of one of the undercover vehicles, and proceeded to take out possibly the largest bag I have ever seen, about the size of a child. They were handling it with safety gloves, so we could only assume it was the drugs they had confiscated, especially since the bag wasn't see through. It was big, rugged, and, looked heavy. Another officer carried out what seem

crime - Text - complicated. We took photos of that as well to show our AirBnB host. AirBnB didn't make us eligible for a refund due to owner policies, but the host was completely understanding and issued us a full refund. The host was very nice and helpful, and it's a shame we couldn't stay at her AirBnB (one of the law enforcement vehicles pulled up behind us, trapping us in for a little bit). At some point, as everyone was leaving the scene, the undercover vehicle behind us pulled up to our wi

End of the day though, the AirBnB owner apologized, we got our full refund, we got a"free show", and we had to spend the night in a hotel afterall, of which my dad vowed he would never try AirBnB again Willing to post pictures here as proof, but I need to get the pictures into my laptop to censor faces first. Might take a few hours

crime - Text - Tl:dr Travelled 10 hours away to accompany my dad in buying a semi truck. Instead of renting a hotel room for 3 days, I suggested an AirBnB for our last day. Dad has never done AirBnB before, and didn't want to, but I convinced him it would be a good experience. We show up the AirBnB only to see the neighbor's house swarmed by narcotics officers and undercover police, due to the neighbor manufacturing narcotics. A federal vehicle pulls in behind us, preventing us from leaving for
